Censorship from the free speech media

Censorship from the free speech media

I have been having fun posting on the Cleveland.com education forum. I have refrained from being belligerent in my writing. But belligerent writing is in many cased the norm for this forum. Check out the education forum and judge for yourself how some writers act.

Cleveland.com Education Forum

Some of my posts have brought up some harsh realities and have asked some tough questions. It is obvious that there are those who feel threatened by what I write as there has been a bit of retaliation. Lately, some of my postings are being deleted by the moderators of the Cleveland.com forum page. In actuality they are being censored. I have questioned the moderators of Cleveland.com why some of my posts have been deleted. What rules were being broken that warranted the deletion? The moderators have remained silent.

What I have posted on the Cleveland.com education forum are my blogs that you can read here on my blog page. You can read them here in their entirety.

One possible reason for the censorship is that the Plain Dealer will be supporting Dr. Eugene Sanders request for more money from the taxpayers. The Plain Dealer has always backed the Cleveland school district regardless of the corruption that continues to take place. My postings would hinder their efforts to support the schools. Of course this is just one thought. I am sure that there could be other reasons.

I posted my blog “We need more money” and it was quickly deleted. I wrote in that post that I knew it would incense some people and I surmised that some would do what they could to censor the past. I guess I was correct.

Recently I posted a question concerning the Cleveland schools policies and consequences relating to students who are caught with dangerous weapons in school. After receiving several responses that did not answer my inquiries, this post was deleted by the moderators of the Cleveland.com education forum. I re-posted the blog with a question to the moderators on what rules were broken that caused the post to be deleted. The moderators continue to be silent.

Here is that posting and a response from a teacher who avoids the question.

“Prior to the Asa Coon incident, does anybody know what the consequences were that a student faced from the CMSD if he or she was found with a weapon on their person while in school? Did they get arrested? Did they get expelled? Did they get suspended? Did they get a detention? Did they get a note from the teacher pinned to their shirt for their parents to read when they get home?

What were the consequences a student faced from the CMSD if he or she assaulted another student? Assaulted a teacher or principal? Assaulted a security guard?

According to the Plain Dealer story, there were 304 incidents involving possession of dangerous weapons such as guns and knives. Did the students involved in these incidents get arrested, expelled, suspended, or given a detention? What consequences did they have to face?”

(I also requested an answer from the moderators on why they deleted my post. They again did not reply, but my post was not deleted this time.)

“The above is a repeat of a post that was deleted by the moderator(s) of the Cleveland.com Education forum. To the moderator(s) who deleted my post – Could you please clarify for me and others what rules were broken that caused my post to be censored. Considering some of the other posts that you (the moderator(s)) have allowed to remain on the page that have not followed your (the moderator(s)) rules, I would like an explanation for my understanding and the understanding of all who read and post on this forum. Please reply.”

A response from a teacher dodging the question:

by Cleveland Teacher:
No one can answer what happened on 304 different occasions. But it is public record. Inquire for yourself at 1380 east 6th St. if you find that the rules were not enforced, then bring it to the attention of woio 19 action news. They’re always looking for a good story.

Also, I said before and I’ll say it again. The problems with Cleveland schools are largely the result of a community that doesn't value education. Leadership comes and goes, but the community remains non-committed to education. Until that changes, the schools will continue to struggle. Cutting funding and leaving an under funded system for those who do care, however, is not the answer. Neither is locking up all the insubordinate children or their parents, or sterilizing them. I don't know what the answer is, other than to keep on trying.

And my response back:

by RickCFD:
I would usually ignore a response like yours, but this time I couldn’t resist. Assuming that you are in fact a teacher, are you a teacher in the Cleveland school district? If you are, do you know your CMSD policies concerning dangerous weapons found on a student’s person?

If you are a Cleveland teacher and you do have an understanding on the CMSD policies, would you share them on this forum?

To make my inquiry clear for the sake of the readers who do not understand my question, I am defining a dangerous weapon as a gun or knife. What consequences would a student face if he or she was caught with a gun or knife on their person in school?

What are the consequences a student would face if they assaulted a teacher?

From your response, am I to understand that the CMSD has multiple policies concerning a student who is caught in school with a dangerous weapon on their person or assaulting a teacher?

And FYI, I have questioned the CMSD on their policies concerning students who are caught with dangerous weapons on their person. As with the Cleveland teachers who post on this forum, (if there are any), they have failed to respond.
